It is common knowledge that the majority of overweight people who try to lose weight will fail miserably. Why is this so? The main reason is that most fat people don't believe they can achieve their ideal weight. They believe they are fat and that's that. Try telling a 150kg man that he can achieve his ideal weight of 70kg and you will probably get that "Yah, sure" reply. This skepticism breeds negative feelings and thoughts that will sabotage any efforts you may make to lose weight. If you believe you cannot lose weight, you will remain fat, period.

So what can you do about it? Be a positive thinker instead! When you become a positive thinker, losing weight will as easy as ABC for you. When you start thinking you can be thin (instead of fat), your powerful subconscious mind will make sure that you will be thin. That's the power of belief. Believe it or not, your mindset and attitude can make or break your weight loss goals.
However, knowing this fact about positive thinking is easy, the difficult part is changing your thoughts and feelings from negative to positive. Rome wasn't built in a day and like wise you cannot hope to achieve your weight loss goals in a short time too. To succeed, you must first change your thinking but that will take some time. Imagine your mind as a big ocean liner. In order to change course and reverse direction, this big ship needs to first slow down and come to a halt, then can it change direction slowly. So it is with your negative thinking.
But there are things you can do to speed up this change in thinking. Let's look at some of them here.
1. You must acknowledge or admit that you have a weight problem that needs attention
This is much like an alcoholic admitting that he is addicted to alcohol. Admission is the first step. If you cannot even admit that you have a problem, you will never seek a solution in the first place. Facing up to your problem takes courage but without courage, there can never be any improvement. Admitting that a problem exist slows the ocean liner and eventually stops it. Then the ship can turn.
2. Once you admit that you have a problem, then you need to motivate yourself to start losing weight
Admitting that you have a weight problem is a good first step. But you will still have that negative thinking that you cannot lose weight and achieve your ideal shape. That's where motivation comes in. You must stay motivated and keep believing that you can achieve your weight loss goals. How?
For a start, obviously you must know your weight loss goal. To know that, you need to find out your ideal body weight, and then subtract that from your current body weight. The resulting figure you now get is the amount of body weight you got to lose to acquire the kind of shape you desire. Usually this figure is too daunting, it could be say 50kg. When you look at this figure, you will shocked and your mind will not believe that you can lose 50kg at all. You need to do something else.
One way to overcome this barrier in your mind is to set a small goal at first - a baby step. Give yourself 1 month to lose 1-2kg. This will be easy to achieve and serve to motivate you to go further. Once you achieve your first baby goal of 2kg, the rest will follow.
However, even with baby steps, you will still get discouraged along the way. In fact, you will likely hit the stage called the "weight loss plateau". This is a very common occurrence where you find that you cannot go further. To counter this, you must be constantly aware of the reasons why you want to lose all that weight in the first place - be it to look good in clothes, to be healthier and be fitter, etc. Then hang around positive thinking people who will encourage you; get involved in weight loss forums; listen to motivational speeches, etc. This will raise your positive energy and motivate you even further to achieve your weight loss goals.
The above are two ways in which you can move towards your weight loss goals. But they are not enough and you will need other methods to propel you forward. Luckily, you can get hold of these methods, including some tips and tricks, on my website. Please refer to the author resource box for more details.
